Elara is a mythological Greek name with a real classical background. The exact literal root is still uncertain, but reputable name evidence does give a possible Greek derivation rather than leaving the entry entirely undefined.
In mythology Elara was one of Zeus's mortal lovers and the mother of Tityos. The name later became even more visible through astronomy, since one of Jupiter's moons bears her name.
